The State of New York City’s Housing and Neighborhoods report, published annually by the NYU Furman Center, provides a compendium of data and analysis about New York City’s housing, land use, demographics, and quality of life for each borough and the city’s 59 community districts. This year’s report includes the following:

2018 Focus:The Diversity of New York City’s Neighborhoods and Schools
Each year, the State of New York City’s Housing and Neighborhoods report describes, contextualizes, and provides analysis on a pressing and policy-relevant issue affecting New York City. In 2018, the report focuses on the connection between neighborhood racial diversity and racial diversity in public primary schools.

School District Diversity profiles: The focus is complimented by a set of interactive District Diversity profiles that contain statistics and demographic data on each of New York City’s school districts.

Part 1: Citywide Analysis

Part 1 provides a broad, longitudinal analysis of New York City’s housing and neighborhoods. The chapter is divided into five parts: New Yorkers; land use and the built environment; homeowners and their homes; renters and their homes; and neighborhood services and conditions.

Part 2: City, Borough, and Community District Data

Part 2 provides current and historical statistics for housing, neighborhood, and socioeconomic indicators at the city, borough, and community district levels.

Part 3: Indicators, Rankings, and Methods

Part 3 includes definitions for each indicator in the report; community district indicator rankings; methods; and an index of New York City’s Community Districts and Sub-Borough Areas.
