NYU Furman Center Releases State of New York City’s Housing and Neighborhoods in 2022

We are thrilled to announce the release of the comprehensive report the State of New York City's Housing and Neighborhoods in 2022. This work sheds light on the evolving landscape of housing and communities in New York City, providing valuable insights into the city's vibrant and diverse neighborhoods.

This year’s Focus report explores the demographics of households in New York City’s low-density neighborhoods, including a closer look at renter and owner households. It also examines the current land use in those neighborhoods and analyzes changes in new housing development over the last decade.

In addition, the State of New York City's Housing and Neighborhoods in 2022 offers an in-depth examination of key trends, challenges, and opportunities impacting housing and neighborhoods in New York City. In addition to detailed data on all 59 community districts, we cover a wide range of topics, including rental and homeownership trends, housing affordability, neighborhood demographics, and housing development patterns. By synthesizing data from various sources and employing rigorous methodology, the report serves as an invaluable resource for policymakers, researchers, urban planners, and anyone interested in understanding and addressing housing issues in New York City.

At 4:00 pm ET, Thursday, May 25, 2023, the Furman Center will host a launch event and panel to explore key findings from the report: By the Numbers: New York City's Low-Density Neighborhoods. The event will be held in person, although attendees can also join via zoom.
