Faculty Director Ingrid Gould Ellen Discusses Gentrification at City Sessions, Hosted by Next City

On December 3rd, Ingrid Gould Ellen, faculty director at the NYU Furman Center, participated in City Sessions, a series of panels hosted by Next City that explored housing affordability in Philadelphia's changing neighborhoods.

The panel, titled, "Gentrification, Integration and Equity," examined various definitions of gentrification, considered it is bad for low-income minority communities, and explored strategies preserving affordability in gentrifying neighborhoods. A recap of the discussion is available from Next City

Other panelists included Eric Grimes, co-founder of AAKT (Action, Advocacy, Knowledge, & Training) Concepts for Social Justince and Community Development; Kira Strong, Vice President of Community and Economic Development at the People’s Emergency Center; and Jennifer I. Rodriguez, Executive Director for the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant and Multicultural Affairs for the City of Philadelphia. The panel was moderated by Sabrina Vourvoulias, Managing editor of AL DIA News.

The panel was the third installment in the City Sessions series, hosted by Next City, which included discussions on ideas, issues, and the communities that will shape Philadelphia in the future.
