Policy Director Jessica Yager Speaks at Miami Housing Resilience Forum

News & Events | November 17th 2014

This month, Jessica Yager, policy director at the NYU Furman Center, joined local and national experts at the Housing Resilience Forum in Miami, Florida. Organized by the University of Miami, the Forum brought together affordable housing providers, planners, architects, climate/sustainability experts, elected officials, and community organizers to discuss issues of resilience and affordability for the future of housing in Miami.

Yager discussed the intersection of resilience and affordability, specifically as it pertains to the costs and challenges of retrofitting multi-family homes. The cost of such upgrades can often threaten housing affordability, as explored in our July 2014 report, The Price of Resilience: Can Multifamily Housing Afford to Adapt.

The Forum brought together a wide range of experts. Other presenters included Brian Marino, President of the Family Insurance Services, Inc.; Matt Lord, HUD Sustainability Officer in Miami; Cathie Perkings, of the Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency management; and Ismael Guerrero, of the Denver Housing Authority and the national sustainable cities non-profit, EcoDistricts.
