According to our State of New York City’s Housing and Neighborhoods 2012 report, the graduation rate in New York City in 2005 (46.5 percent) was equal to the average graduation rate in the “Big Four”-- Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers. Six years later, however, New York City’s graduation reached 65.5 percent--a 19 percentage point change from 2005, while the average graduation rate in the Big Four had risen only to  56.3 percent. During this period, the gap between NYC’s graduation rate and the rate for New York State as a whole narrowed to 11.3 percentage points.
