Furman Center Hosts ‘By the Numbers’ Forum to Discuss Density in New York City

On Tuesday, May 5th, over 350 people gathered at the NYU School of Law for the Furman Center's forum, By the Numbers: Discussions on Density. The event was presented in conjunction with the release of the State of New York City's Housing and Neighborhoods in 2014 report

The forum featured an introductory welcome by Mark Willis, executive director of the NYU Furman Center, and Sherry Glied, Dean of the NYU Wagner School of Public Service. Ingrid Gould Ellen, faculty director of the NYU Furman Center, presented the research findings from the State of New York City's Housing & Neighborhoods in 2014  (download PDF of this presentation).

Following the research presentation, Professor Ellen moderated a panel discussion, which included Rohit Aggarwala, Sustainability Principal at Bloomberg Associates and Professor of Professional Practice in International and Public Affairs at Columbia University; Toni L. Griffin, Professor of Architecture and Founding Director, J.Max Bond Center on Design for the Just City, City College of New York, CUNY; Carl Weisbrod, Director of the NYC Department of City Planning and Chairman of the NYC Planning Commission; and Carol Willis, President and Founder of the Skyscraper Museum in New York City.

The program was followed by a networking reception and remarks from Vicki Been, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
