Faculty Director Ingrid Gould Ellen Participates in the Federal Reserve Research Conference

The Ninth Biennial Federal Reserve System Community Development Research Conference, held on April 2-3, 2015, aimed to bridge the gap between research, policy, and practice on the issue of economic mobility.

NYU Furman Center Faculty Director Ingrid Gould Ellen was a discussant on a panel that explored the relationship between communities and economic mobility. Discussion questions included: How do locational differences affect economic mobility outcomes? What neighborhood conditions affect economic mobility? Why do certain physical places succeed or fail in generating jobs, small-business growth, wealth-building financial services, rising home values, better schools, lower crime?

The panel was moderated by Paul Weech, President and CEO of NeighborWorks America. Other presenters included:

  • Robert J. Sampson, Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences and Director of the Boston Area Research Initiative at Harvard University
  • Rucker Johnson, Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy at  University of California, Berkeley
