The Legal Aid Society offers representation and advice to tenant groups and community housing organizations, as well as assistance to individuals with eviction cases, repairs, rent assistance, public housing issues, and Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE). Additionally, the Manhattan Housing Court Project provides housing court representation and assistance.

MFY provides eviction prevention services in Manhattan to seniors age 60 and over and to tenants in most areas south of 129th Street. MFY’s East Side SRO Law Project provides legal assistance to SRO residents citywide (except for the west side of Manhattan), and our Mental Health Law Project provides services citywide to people with mental disabilities. In addition, MFY offers foreclosure prevention legal services to low-income homeowners in Queens and Staten Island.

Fax: (212) 533-4598The Urban Justice Center is a non-profit organization that provides legal representation and advocacy to poor and homeless New Yorkers. Its Homeless Outreach and Prevention Project holds walk-in legal clinics at soup kitchens and shelters which assist clients with legal problems relating to government benefits, housing, and disability. The Community Development Project provides legal and technical assistance to grassroots community groups working for positive social change in low-income communities in New York City, including the area of affordable housing and tenant organizing.
