Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS)

Through a partnership with Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City (NHS), the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) provides direct, low-interest home improvement loans to homeowners of one- to four-family homes. NHS offers the following loans:

Emergency Repair Loans (ERP): Loans of up to $10,000 to correct health and safety-related emergency situations such as roof leaks, water main breaks or heating system repairs of the subject building in the five boroughs.

Revolving Loan Fund Core Loans (RIF Core Loans): Loans for large repairs and renovation of the subject building in selected neighborhoods.

Home Improvement Program Loans (HIP Loans): Loans of up to $30,000 to assist income-eligible owner-occupants of one- to four-family homes to make repairs to masonry, roofs, plumbing, and other building systems in need of repairs. HIP is no longer accepting applications.This program is no longer available (See HPD site).

Home Improvement Program Options Loans (HIP Options Loans): Loans made to homeowners who have been turned down for a city-sponsored Home Improvement Program loan due to their insufficient income or credit history.
