Hunter’s Point South

Program (?) Hunter’s Point South
Alternative Name(s) Queens West
Program Description

City plans for Hunter’s Point South, located in Long Island City, Queens, include housing, retail space, community and cultural facilities, a middle/high school, parking and a new 11-acre waterfront park. It will include up to 5,000 apartments and 2,000 parking spaces. The land was transferred from NYS EDC to HPD in 2009, and construction on the first phase started in February 2011. The new construction of high density housing at Hunter’s Point South is expected to be a mix of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, of which 60 percent will be affordable to middle-income households. Affordable units are targeted to households with incomes between 80 percent and 165 percent of AMI. Hunter’s Point South was previously called “Queens West,” and was part of New York City’s failed bid for the 2012 Olympics.
